Fledge - work in progress by Leslie

Here's Leslie working on a new painting. It will be combined with one of her line paintings of Emily... it's kind of hard to explain. Trust me, it's going to be cool.

It's tricky to photograph her working because we've both taken to painting under really bright, close up light. It helps to actually see what you're doing!

Holiday Lifeboats

Here's a painting of some lifeboats that I recently sent to Julie Nester Gallery in Park City Utah. They're taking it to the San Francisco Fine Art Fair this week.

Walk - new painting by Jeff

Here's a painting I did on commission. I was surprised by how much fun it was to paint all those crazy reflections in the glass buildings. If you look closely you can see that there are buildings reflected within buildings, and so on. Recursion!

More paintings from me soon!

Making Tiles

Some days are painting days, and some days are preparation days. Here's a little video of what I do to create the tiles I paint on. Some of the video is sped up - if I was really that fast, there's no way I would still have all my fingers!

More from the Stricoff Show

Back from New York, ready to paint!

We had a great time in New York! This was our first chance to meet the folks at Stricoff Fine Art, who are amazing. The show looked good and the reception was well attended. The last day we were there, the sun actually came out! I took lots of photos for reference, so look for some New York City paintings coming from Jeff and Leslie soon.

Group Show at Stricoff in New York

Leslie and Jeff will be flying to New York for this show! (Provided, of course, that the Atlanta airport doesn't cancel all flights due to a little snow.)

Iya - Completed painting by Jeff

This painting has been packed up and shipped to New York for the group show at Stricoff. The name of the piece is "Iya", which is what it says in the word balloon. It means "no," or so my son tells me. I think it's some kind of slang pronunciation. Whatever. I like not knowing what the Japanese writing in my paintings means until I finish them.

I'll be at the reception for the opening of the show in New York on March 4th! Be there!

Jeff's Facebook Fan Page

In my ongoing effort to keep up with what those crazy kids are into, I've set up a Facebook fan page!

If you're on Facebook, you can join the group here:
Jeff Cohen Studio on Facebook

I've done this because it's a good way to let people know about openings, and I think it might make a little more sense for posting minor updates about what I'm doing from day to day. I'll still be posting my finished works here, as well as news about shows and events.

As I'm writing this, my Facebook fan group consists of my daughter, my wife, myself, one good friend I had to coerce, and three actual bonafide fans! Seven in all. Can you feel my self esteem shriveling before your very eyes? Don't make me beg!

Eggshells on Manga stage 1- painting in progress by Jeff

This is the third of these eggshells on manga paintings for me. It's an interesting motif, I think - and people are really responding well to them in the galleries. As you can see, the eggshells are nearly complete. I just need to give them a few days to dry before I start adding the manga into the background.

Cloudy Tower - completed painting by Jeff

Finished! Now I just have to wait for the weather to warm up just a little so I can get down to my garage and build a box on which to mount the tiles.

Cloudy Tower stage 2 - Work in progress by Jeff

It's coming along! A couple more days should do it.

Jeff's work hanging at Bennett Street

I took some pieces down to the gallery today and snapped a photo of my work hanging. It's a good looking gallery! Awesome people, too.

Cloudy Tower stage 1 - Work in progress by Jeff

I saw this water tower in Tampa when Leslie and I went on our last cruise. It's a good one! Since I started painting water towers I've become sort of a collector, I guess. I can spot them from great distances. The Tampa area has a few really cool ones. This tower is on the Argosy University building. Colleges tend to be good places to find water towers, since they often try to preserve old structures as part of their effort to give the impression of legacy, I suppose.

Fuji - completed painting by Jeff

Finished! Now I just have to let it dry for a few days before I can glue it up.

Fuji stage 2 - Work in progress by Jeff

Working on handlebars today. I'll set these tiles aside now and let the paint dry. One more sitting should do it for the handlebars and brakes, I think.

Fuji - Work in progress by Jeff

I've done several paintings of this old bike, but it's been a while. I'm doing this one specifically for my new gallery, Bennett Street. Susie Pryor, the owner of the gallery, showed so much enthusiasm for my bike paintings that I just couldn't resist! I'm a real sucker for enthusiasm about my art.

The subject here is a bike that my sister and I gave to my mom as a birthday present when we were teenagers. It spent many years at the beach in North Carolina, until it just got too rusty to use practically. I brought it back to Georgia to live in my garden, where it has gained more and more rust and patina. I suppose with enough WD40 I could still ride it, but it makes an awfully nice model for my paintings just like it is!

The finished size of this piece will be 40" x 40". This image is a close-up of the painting - it's going to have a lot more breathing room when it's done.

New finished work - bound for my new gallery!

I've got new representation in Atlanta: Bennett Street Gallery! These paintings are finished and ready to go to them next week, though they won't officially be introducing me for a few months. I have a really good feeling about this gallery! Stay tuned for dates of my openings.

Two Marbles - work in progress by Jeff

Back from our cruise and ready for some serious painting! I started this painting of two marbles a while ago, but I got distracted by other projects. O thought it was further along than it is, but looking at it with fresh eyes reveals a lot of opportunity for improvement.

A Couple of Towers - work in progress by Jeff

I'm trying to get to a good stopping point on these two paintings before I leave for a cruise to Mexico tomorrow! I plan to come back with some good, new reference material. In fact, we're going to stop and photograph a few water towers that I know of on the way.
